Have Camera...

*

Have camera
will travel
by car
to river
and
if cannot walk
will sit
on park bench
and wait
for the walk
to come
to me...

I take up my position
on the Noosa River
this sunny, warm winter's afternoon
and applying Mohammed's
mountain moving theory in reverse,
I wait
for the passing parade
to come my way...

It is school holidays
and people are out
enjoying the river walk

walking dogs

of various shapes
and sizes

and so too
are the dog walkers

a young mother
encourages her young baby
to stand

so that she can
snap the moment
for posterity

and a doting
father creeps up
on his son
to squeals of glee...

there are skateboarders
zipping along

young cyclists falling down
to a soft grassy landing

and kids on scooters
weaving their way with mum
down the pathway

an elderly man
sits silhouetted
in the glare.
I noticed before that
he had a walking stick
which I now
enviously covet...

and the ducks
bob and bounce
unperturbed
in the wakes
of passing boats

The day was fading so
I slowly hobbled
across the road
and climbed into my car,
then turned to look
back toward the river
once more
before I left...

Oh Happy Days

  5. Great theory of yours & it certainly worked! The G-man and I were talking about you, your injury, your photos & your lovely view from your home. The walkway along the Noosa River is lovely. The weather looks perfect... seems you are having a nice winter.

  7. I don't know why this came to mind when reading your post, but it did:

“How does your ship travel faster than light?”

“Actually the ship is stationary the whole time, the ship’s engines move the Universe around the ship”

  8. What a perfect, peaceful day you shared. There's a lesson here for all of us to slow down, stop and look around. Thank you, Delwyn. Blessings!!

  9. Hello, dear Delwyn.

Even sitting on a bench and watching the world go by, you see so much and describe it so poignantly!

Please stop by my blog for a very special award when you have a chance.

  11. Hello, Delwyn. Thank you for the "walk" in park. Good to see that Hubby is making sure that you are getting out! It is nice to watch people at play. It relaxes you--just like your posts. The lazy days of summer here makes everyone slow down and simply enjoy the company of others. Sitting on the porch with a cool drink, soft breeze, and slow conversation. Nice.

  12. Hello Cyndy
now i am intrigued - where did hubby come into the story...

I was just thinking how nice it is not to have to go anywhere today...to take the day as it unfolds...who knows where it may lead...

    Happy days

  15. Dear Delwyn,

In regards to hubby, I thought for sure I read that you went together! I am intrigued, too, as I reread your post and see absolutely no reference! Maybe I was just thinking that he was encouraging you to get outside since my husband was the doing that to me today. Projection? : )

Probably more likely just the end of a very long, but glorious, weekend. Monday morning is going to come way too soon...

  19. Hello Lizzy

There is always so much happening out there. Even from my nest I am noticing the daily changes I wasn't aware of before...the habits of the ducks and cormorants...

    My ears weren't burning...

Our winters are usually very easy and mellow...warm days and sitting in the sun for a coffee is just perfect...

  20. Hello Julie - old friend...

The funny thing was I often pretended to be snapping other things...we have laws here banning the snapping of people on the beaches and also snapping children so people are very aware of that...

Easier to do with the dogs...the mother didn't know I was aiming at her...she was preoccupied...the man with the 2 dogs did and gave me a big smile...

  22. Hi Steven

well I have learned that husband will come with cups of tea, the newspaper, and meals, and do the grocery shopping too...so thought I should try the theory on the general population...

yes the subjects ranged from baby to the aged - and me somewhere in between - the silent observer... the silent snapper perhaps... pretending to snap at the scenery...

  26. Hello Delwyn,
Your camera is still able to take walks, even if your ankle isn't cooperating. The Noosa River is lovely - I really like the backlit picture of the sailboat and man. Speedy healing to you.

  27. You're driving! Congratulations! I loved your shots of all those people, from young to old, in action and in repose, because you were so connected. No posing, just life and thoughts and feelings. A wonderful story today, Delwyn!

  32. Isn't it wonderful to take a backsest, as it were & to watch the world go by, even if your not being able to get about is a nuiscance it still can hae benefits. its all about how one views a situation. my oft repeated words, "everything happens for a reason" x x
