Early Morning Sounds

*

Sounds
at early morning
on my walk

Cicada songs float
out over the briny drifts
soft footfalls on sand

Waves wash over stones
while far above Granite Bay
Splendid Blue Wrens sing

Thank you Dan
for inspiring me
to capture these sounds
in Haiku

  2. Early moring sounds are the best!

I enjoyed your wonderful Pandanus Parable, Delwyn. I have a Yucca plant, which looks similar, that endures and thrives. Found it years ago cast aside on a compost heap, it had spent all winter that way. Now, it blooms beautifully every year, even with the deers shredding it's leaves each winter.

  3. Very cool Delwyn and soothing. I'm listening to the mourning doves right now.

  4. Every winter I forget all about the sound of cicadas! I even forget about crickets and tree frogs. Winter here is very quiet.

So far we only have birdsong to accompany the morning. But the sounds of summer will arrive soon enough.

Thank you for this beautiful reminder!

  6. The sound of nature is the sweetest sound of all. Right now as I type, through the window, I can hear the beautiful singing of the blackbird. Unfortunately, I can only imagine the sounds of the sea.

  7. Ah, Spring, she is here at last in lovely Louisiana. I have my windows all open and have been sitting and listening to the wind and watch it dance with the trees. What a priceless pastime it is to hear mother nature singing. A lovely post, Delwyn. Blessings!

  8. Delwyn, you are welcome! What the world needs now is more poetry, more beauty, more wonder.

A Hazy Moon is supplying me and many others with just that. I hope you'll give more poems to the bloggosphere. I love it, and feel grateful for the posts you give.

"Gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder" a phrase I just read over on Jenny's blog comes to mind as I read your post about the sounds in nature and feel it resonate out there through the world.

  15. Hello Reya

Cicadas sound all over the world and are an important part of the summer chorus....
I don't need to worry in the winter I have them permanently in one ear!!!

  17. Hi Ann

I do think the old magpie has one of the greatest songs of all. In Kauai at dusk there was a chorus of bird call and when I went to investigate I found it was all coming from one character...he had a great repertoire.

and a perky tail that dropped as he sang...

  25. Hi, Delwyn-- it's funny. I was also experimenting with other formulations of that "equation."

Just as you can play around with numbers on either side of an equals sign in algebra, I think you can play with these ideas profitably.
