Terminalia











 On the sandy shore
giant red leaves spin and dance
to the trade winds' tune










 








Terminalia catappa

a large tropical tree
of the Leadwood family,
which is deciduous
and can grow to 25m
Fruits are red green, 
hard and flattened
The seeds float 
and can be carried considerable distances
on the oceans
The wood has been used 
by the Polynesians for making canoes

  3. We have huge Tulip trees on the property here, that are very debree producing. They're also known as canoewood because of the tree's use for construction of dugout canoes by early Eastern Native Americans.

    Kauai is very slow and restful,sort of induces a mesmerizing state of slowness and inactivity that is healing...

    wish you were too, I'd love to meet you.. We met two other couples from our home state yesterday in the coffee shop...that is quite rare...
