Bali Hai
Most people live on a lonely island,
Lost in the middle of a foggy sea.
Most people long for another island,
One where they know they will like to be.
Bali Ha'i may call you,
Any night, any day,
In your heart, you'll hear it call you:
"Come away...Come away."
In your heart, you'll hear it call you:
"Come away...Come away."
Bali Ha'i will whisper
In the wind of the sea:
"Here am I, your special island!
Come to me, come to me!"
In the wind of the sea:
"Here am I, your special island!
Come to me, come to me!"
Your own special hopes
Your own special dreams
Bloom on the hillside
And shine in the streams
If you try you'll find me
Where the sky meets the sea
"Here am I, your special island
Come to me Come to me."
Bali Hai

Delwyn, you just gave those lovely words special meaning to me, with your beautiful photos and being there!
ReplyDeleteLo♥e to you,
Wanda
Beautiful - it is still March 7th here in the US - I saw your post and it say March 8th, and I said wait a minute, and then I realized that you are in Australia :)
ReplyDeleteThe sky, clouds, sun rays, mountain, and sea are all so beautiful, Delwyn. These photos are now etched on my memory. What a magical place!
ReplyDeleteis this paradise?
ReplyDeleteI think so.
I could only hear a faint echo of the tune as I read your lyrics ( couldn't quite remember) - so I just looked it up on iTunes. The music is hauntingly beautiful - and so are your wonderful cloud and sunbeam photos.
ReplyDeleteWhat a place, that sky is beyond amazing.
ReplyDeleteI sat here singing Bali Hai while I looked at your beautiful pictures and thought about how I have been writing this week about summers on MY island in Lake Winnipesaukee, N.H. My island... no one else's, mind you. MINE. There is something magical about it, to me. Safety and isolation. I don't know. But it was fun to see your entry tonight. Thanks again for visiting my blog!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing your "walks" in Australia... These pictures made my heart sigh. Just beautiful.
Holy Moly! This is a wonderful series of snapshots!
ReplyDeleteLovely.
ReplyDeleteHi Wanda
ReplyDeleteI often sing the Bali Hai refrain as a bit of a joke to annoy the family. One time we came over here with friends and hired out the video and sang ourselves silly...
I just said to Beloved I think that I need to frame those words for our beach house here...
Happy days
Hello Pink Dogwood
ReplyDeleteyou got me thinking there because I am in Kauai not Australia but of course my blog is set to Au dates where it is already Monday...at 2pm... a 20hours difference to Hawaii time.
I am in Kauai for another week unwinding after the last of the family and friends leave for home after the wedding...
Happy days
Hi Barb
ReplyDeletethis spot is one of my top 2 or 3 in the world that I have found to be magical...It is very low key here and life dawdles along so in addition to the stunning scenery the life style is very enviable if, like me, you like SLOW...and SIMPLE...
Have you been to these islands Barb?
Happy days
Oh Violet
ReplyDeleteI know so...
Happy days
Beautiful with the sun's rays shooting out from behind the clouds. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteHi there Jennifer...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you found the music stirring and you have given me the idea to listen to it on itunes and then I need to load it onto my ipod....somewhere I have the CD but I need to get it more accessible. I loved to remind myself of the words too as I wonder about the way this island calls me back...over 4500 miles...
Happy days
Hi Jeanette
ReplyDeleteIs that where you live Jeanette...
I look forward to hearing about your island...I will google your island...
Happy days
Hi Amy
ReplyDeletethe sky changes every day...there is the most wonderful point at the old Sheraton - now called the St Regis, to watch the evening sky above Bali Hai.
We always must have a cocktail or beer up there and watch the sunset at least once...
Happy days
Hi Polly
ReplyDeleteyou have my favourite saying-

Hi Delwyn: What awsome, inspiring photography! I love the compliment of the lyrics luring us to the fantasy of Bali Hai, if we cannot enjoy the reality as you are doing right now. Thank you for sharing such an incredible reality.
ReplyDeleteHi Delwyn, A beautiful series of photographs. Bali Hai of course brings to mind the film South Pacific.
ReplyDeleteDelwyn, I hear Kauai has a special energy to it, do you feel it there?
ReplyDeleteI can hear Bali Hai calling.
Hello maggie
ReplyDeleteKauai is certainly a special place and it is true that you can feel the trade winds blowing a wonderful energy...the people are relaxed and friendly and the climate...while often rainy here on the Northern shores, is very comfortable.
Happy days
Hi Bonnie
ReplyDeletewhen I googled the lyrics I was surprised at their impact...it is a funny old musical but this song captures the lure of the island, especially Hanalei here on the North Shore.
Happy days
Hi Sapphire
ReplyDeleteThose s words, sun, sea and sky - are a holy trinity...that make for mood and beauty when in combination here in Hanalei...
the sky is always changing, it can rain and then be sunny and warm a minute later...the high mountain peaks push the warm clouds up over the mountains where they drop their moisture forming waterfalls that race down to the sea.
There is always something beautiful to see...
Happy days
Hello Ann
ReplyDeletedo you remember the musical?
I hired it out a while ago on video and had a great laugh...
