Oh Delwyn, Ho'omaika'i,Congratulations, how beautiful your son's (and new daughters) wedding. What a relief the tsunami never materialized, but how scary for all of you. I am a bit envious. Love Kauai. LOVE Hawaii. enjoy!
Delwyn, I love seeing the magnificent landscape where you are right now combined with poetry written in another time and place. It illustrates the circle of life, and, literally, shows how our experiences in life are poetry themselves. Thank you.
Oh Delwyn, what a perfect setting for a wedding... or anything! I know you are enjoying your visit. My favorite priest in the world is at St. Michael & All the Angels Episcopal Church in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii. I had to peek & see if he was performing the ceremony.
I see a fellow kauai lover...thanks for your kind thoughts and yes it was a little dramatic...we hadn't seen the news of the earthquake on TV the previous night so were oblivious to the unfolding story and when those sirens went off we were gripped with fear...
But it was the most perfect day weather wise and if you know Kauai you will remember that those days are not consistent...the next day was stormy and rainy as my misty pics show. So it all worked out well...and the bride didn't have time to get nervous, and those family members preparing food didn't have time to over cater as could have been the case - we whipped up salads and BBQ'd meats right after the ceremony!
Hi Amy you are right I think that this place is equally as beautiful in sun or rain...because the waterfalls run down the mountain faces...and the sun sneaks through in crepuscular rays...
I'm glad that you see the beauty in my grey days too Bonnie...I walk this bay alone each morning both for exercise and as a meditation...it clears my head and calms the mind and replenishes my soul...
I have thought those same things Jennifer as I look through my haiku collection and when writing haiku...every generation feels similar emotions and expresses themselves in their own ways but we can find common ground and shared emotions...
I like your idea that we can see our experiences as poems of life...
The kids were married by a friend who has been mates with my son since they were 5 years old.
Over 30 family and friends made the big trip up from Australia to take part in the wedding so it was a very special day for all involved...and that tsunami evacuation really bonded us all together in a shared drama and experience that will remain vividly in our memories for life...
Some of my greatest memories along the shore of Lake Superior are the ones with the heavy fog. As my wife and I sat painting a scene in the fog, the sky suddenly cleared and we found ourselves sitting a hundred yards from a large land form. You beach area is so beautiful and it would be refreshing to walk there daily. I am glad Hawaii finished well.
the mist can be like a mysterious shroud can't it?
It is a great walk, 1/2 is easy walking - I save that til the end, and the other 1/2 is heavy loose coral sound, which makes walking hard but good for exercise...
Thanks for your kind remarks - the day was just perfect...
we were determined to have the wedding on tsunami day knowing that the next day was to be rainy. Walking in the drizzle is ok here Violet because it isn't too cold...and the rain...well I just think I'll change when I get home...

All the photos are great but that first one is striking! That looks like a really huge beach in the last!
ReplyDeleteEven under the rainy sky and mist, it is a stunning place. :)

ReplyDeletedelwyn the shades of grey are as rich a palette as the rainbow when seen through the eyes of a poet, an artist. these are beautiful. steven
ReplyDeleteBeautiful in every weather. The mood set by the tones of grey and the magnificent mountain forms is soothing. Thank you for sharing a moment on Kauai.

ReplyDeletelove the grey stormy days with sea and mountains (so long as I am dry and safe) but how fortuitous that the wedding day was so blue and sunny!
