  1. Hello Delwyn
I love this post and the pictures are beautiful!

The poem touched me and I agree with Ellen--"we are many people." For me I am a wife, mom, daughter, giver, learner and a good listener.

    Take-Care and have a great week-end!

    Best
    Tracy :)

  3. If I ever find out, I'll let you know! I guess I am the sum of all my experiences, plus the sum of all those others who have shared theirs with me - a many faceted being...

  4. I am an appreciative and contented woman.
I really love the last portait, who is the artist, Delwyn?

  5. Hi Wanda

I can tell from your blog that you are both of those things Wanda, and you are a kind and gentle friend...

Jeanne is the woman and Modigliani the artist.

    Happy days

  7. Ahhh - if we could only see that we are so much more than the roles we assume.

We are all divine energy robed in flesh. But sadly becoming obsessed with the small identities and activities of the flesh, we forget who we really are.

Roberto Assagioli the great Italian psychiatrist (contemporary of Jung and Freud) offers an exercise called "Who Am I?" One part says something like "I play many roles, but I, my true self, am much more than the roles I play...I have a mind, but I, myself am not my mind....etc." He concludes the exercise by saying "I am a center of pure awareness."

So in answer to your question, while I play many of same roles you outline in your post, I know that what I really am is a centre of pure awareness.

  8. Oh, how I love the art of Amedeo Modigliani and how you've measured your life with his magnificent paintings of women! I'll be married 38 years in September. This is a fabulous post, Delwyn.

As for who I am now...I must reinvent myself as I wake each morning in this, the Autumn of my life. Blessings!!

  10. This is a beautiful post. I salute you in all your rolls. There is much richness in all these experiences.

As well, we are souls who at this point in time, have a body.

Thank you for all the beautiful art and thoughts.

  11. Hi Delwyn, A reflective post today that has me wondering. Over the past several months, I've taken stock of myself. I, too, have been many things to many people. Now - I think I just want to evolve into being more Myself. I think maybe I'd like to learn greater acceptance and appreciation for each day and for my place in it.

  12. I am me, just me. In part, the 'me' can function as these other people, but they are never, exclusively me.

I have spent too much time trying to be all things to all people, now I am me.

  17. H there Tulsa

it takes time..and it is an ever changing perception...until it slowly starts to sink deeper into a knowing...

Try the exercise Bonnie describes, it is very useful...

  19. Hi Marion

He is a favourite of mine too Marion ...and I agree that each day we have the chance to modify the way that we present ourselves to the world...bringing more of our inner self out into the world...

  20. Hi Aleks

I like the way that you have described your approach to life as a woman...

It is rainy here too Aleks, it usually is at Easter, unfortunately for all the many holiday makers who come to take advantage of the 4 day weekend and the school break for a week.

    Happy days

  22. Hi Barb

I have noticed a change in you since I first bumped into you in cyberspace...I sensed the shift too when you had your health scare recently...and also I think that this shift comes at a certain age....
I certainly have few expectations of myself anymore in an achieving and accomplishing sense in the outer world...and am enjoying the simple reflective life...a life full of wonder and appreciation...

  23. Hi friko

it is good to hear of women who have given up the priorities that they once thought so important and have re-valued them selves to their own advantage and personal development...

there are times when we have no option but to play certain roles and perform certain necessary functions to keep the wheels greased and the family and community that we live in functioning...but at the same time we must measure the effects of those roles on our selves...and make adjustments if possible...

  24. Hello Lori ann

I always call you Lori...which do you prefer...

No it is not my birthday. I am going across to New Zealand today to spend a week with my parents and that always make me think of who I am, returning to my homeland and place of birth and childhood...to where I am the daughter once again...I always feel the girl when I am in my parents house!

  25. Hi Rosaria

I think there is a consensus here that we are far more than the sum of all our roles in life...and that on some level we are linked...

  26. Ahhh, I am all my labels and I am not, also :) In some ways who I am becomes more and more simple with each passing year and yet some of it still remains a bit of a mystery to unfold!

    Loved the portraits!

  27. Is is this Modigliani's work?
We have many different roles -and I kinda like it that way:)

  28. Hello Vicky

I am doing some catching up...

That is the eternal paradox you have stumbles on...the simple and clear and the mystery and unknowing go hand in hand all our lives...

  29. Hi Jeanette

Yes these women are Modigliani's paintings of his partner and love Jeanne Heberteurne who died tragically after he did...both so young.

yes we do wear many hats and perform many roles and yet over and above that are much more...

    Happy days
