  1. Strength, faith, hope, love: all contagious.

What I love about your blog is the way it infects me and so many others with positive intention and emotion. The world needs every particle we can generate, resonate, and pass along to all we meet.

    Thank you, Delwyn!

  2. Thank you Dan

I wrote this post after listening to the song playing at home and loving it once again...I loved the simple refrain and thought we can all do with a touch of strength, faith, hope and love...

and THEN I realised for whom it had been written ...

It is a tribute to the Firefighters of 9/11...

    Happy days

  5. My day is just starting Delwyn and your post gave me a quiet moment to pause and appreciate the good in the world...

Included in my thoughts were fire fighters and health care givers...something close to home with me...911 influenced a grandson in high school at the time to become a firefighter and paramedic...and now a second one is a junior firefighter at our local dept. and a g/daughter is in pre nursing school...I believe they were all influenced by 911.

Thank you Delwyn for such a post...

  6. Hi Mr C

    Yes the Boss rocks....
This song he sang at the last tour he made to Au and it was new to us and had an incredible impact...I love the hauntingly beautiful introduction by his wife...its like a keening...

  7. Hello Wanda

I have just come in from dinner out with Beloved and daughter to celebrate my birthday - so 9/11 is not all bad...

I told Beloved about this post and he has put on the Boss at high volume...

I enjoyed hearing of how your grandchildren were inspired by the events of 9/11 to choose paths of service... may your strength give us strength, may your hope give us hope...in action...

  9. Delwyn:

The posts stands by itself, but when we add your intent - to honor the memory of 9/11, and Bruce's intent to pull the good, the love, the strength that was demonstrated on that day, out into the now . . .
well it becomes breathtaking and heartwarming. Thank you Delwyn.

How sweet of your DB, once he knew of your post to put B.Springsteen on at full volume for you.

And Happy Birthday!! The day must be winding down for you now - hope it was a good one - and that you were duly feted by your loved ones.

    Cheers!

    Bonnie

  11. Hi Bonnie

You might have noticed in my comment to Dan that originally I hadn't realised the songwriter's meaning behind this song and wrote the post because of the simple beauty of the message, but as you say it is now all the more powerful...

thanks for your kind wishes and yes it has been a day of loving kindness...

I was being made a fuss of at the gym class today, as they are wont to do on birthdays...and I told the other class members that every day is my birthday - because that's how fortunate I feel...

thank you for your kind thoughts my friend...

  13. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! So is your birthday on 9/11? If so, that will give me something happy to think about on this date each year as it goes by.

  14. In the way that you presented it, I wouldn't have guessed that the words were from Bruce Springsteen! Now that I'm 'grown-up', when I listen to his songs, I hear so much depth. I appreciate him much more than when I was a teenager. I love the art that you chose to illustrate his words.

  15. Beautiful, Delwyn. So today is your special day? I hope you have a wonderful day. I'm glad you were born! Blessings!

  16. The painting above "may your love give us love" is so peaceful, so very Japanese. The characters going down the right side say, garden - color - heaven. Such a rich combination. I think of this day, and I think of the symbolism of skyscrapers coming down. Such a horrible memory. But, as many say in many cultures, skyscrapers signify man's attempt to further himself at the expense of groundedness - soul. Clearly, the loss of this symbol has deepened America's - and the world's - soul. And those that gave their lives for that result - priceless. Thanks again for a gorgeous post. EFH

  17. Hi there, nice post. I also really enjoyed your previous post. The life of a person, any person, is always so fascinating no matter how boring to them themselves.

    Kind regards

  18. Speaks to me right away about the significance of the day! I would not have thought of this song along these lines without a simple reminder such as this one! The beauty of a simple message :)

  20. Delwyn, your post stirred many feelings in me - gratitude, but also sadness. Today, our family mourns and remembers a young friend, a college chum of our sons, who died on Flight 93 in Shanksville, PA. He was 29 years old - I cannot believe that 8 years has passed since that awful day.

  21. Hi Delwyn~ That was such an emotional post. I loved the woodcuts with what I thought were the words to a Navaho prayer. And then it was Bruce! I have goosebumps. Going to see him at Madison Square Garden in October. Maybe he'll do this song! It's so beautiful. xx

Oh, Delwyn! The photos of your grandfather and his records below are absolutely stunning! Such wonderful and rich history, a real treasure.

  23. Hi Delwyn, here is a little something for your birthday,a poem I like.Happy birthday and happy days,Aleksandra from the land of dreams :O)

    Song Of A Dream

Once in the dream of a night I stood
Lone in the light of a magical wood,
    Soul-deep in visions that poppy-like sprang;
And spirits of Truth were the birds that sang,
And spirits of Love were the stars that glowed,
And spirits of Peace were the streams that flowed
In that magical wood in the land of sleep.

Lone in the light of that magical grove,
I felt the stars of the spirits of Love
Gather and gleam round my delicate youth,
    And I heard the song of the spirits of Truth;
To quench my longing I bent me low
By the streams of the spirits of Peace that flow
In that magical wood in the land of sleep.

    by Sarojini Naidu
    hope you like it

  24. Hi Dan
Tis true, however when the towers were hit it was actually 9/12 in Australia so I console myself with that thought.

Good and bad together as always Dan...the yin and yang of life...

  25. Hello Kb

Like you I didn't really listen to the Boss when I was younger, then a few years ago I went to his concert and I think it was the best concert I have ever been too. He was so engaging and interactive - like he was performing for you alone...and that takes tremendous charisma and power...

I thought the art prints were subtle enough to carry the powerful words but also had a quiet strength of their own...

  27. Hi Expat

    Is that so...Oh that's perfect...'garden colour heaven...'
that is the perfect symbol of love...

and sacrifice though devotion and duty...

9/11 really did bring us all down to ground zero to re-consider our beliefs and values...

Thanks for coming to chat today...

  28. Hello Clinton
it is nice to see you again...

yes when you look back over 100 years like this you see how the part of a single, quiet, seemingly insignificant man like my Grandfather played in the big picture...of the world theatre...

Bruce's wife introduces it so exquisitely...

Lucky you to be seeing the Boss soon...I haven't been to a concert in a while. We had a run of them a couple of years back and then it went quiet...

  33. hello Leks

    how are you my dear...

I saw you face pop up in my followers box again and wondered what you have been up to...

This is the most beautiful poem I have ever been given Leks...

I would like to think that now I am no longer in my youth and I am a little more mature that perhaps these lovely spirits of Truth, Love and Peace surround me now and not only in my dreams but in my walks and meanderings along life's ways...

Thank you for this birthday treasure Leks. I am going to look up the author now...and copy the poem into my treasured poem collection...

I hope that you are feeling spirited yourself...
