Out of the Mouths of Babes...
Out of the Mouths of Babes...
When I get to the part
where you die...
I am going to run
down to my room
jump up on the bed
and wait
Told to me
with a solemn expression
but one indicating some relief
in having worked through
one of life's more intricate mysteries...
and said
whilst demonstrating
a spread eagled pose...
I hope that when
I get to this part in my life
I will have the energy
to do the same...
Oh Happy days

Delwyn: Sounds like a good plan!
ReplyDeleteChildren are so wise with minds uncorrupted by ego defenses.
hello delwyn - that's what life is like with no filters - on experiencing or expressing in or out! it's cool that the little person sees life as a narrative. how do children know time as an arrow so early? hmmmm. have a peaceful day. steven
ReplyDeleteI picture you as being one that could and will Delwyn!
ReplyDeleteMy grandchildren have given me moments of clarity in my life...their innocent expression of their thoughts and perception of life make me listen!
Smiles always,
Wanda
Hello Bonnie
ReplyDeleteI miss that innocent way of experiencing life, through my children...
Happy days
Hi Steven
ReplyDeleteYes he did see time as a continuum but he failed to consider his own life as one...interesting...he only knew life as a young child...and so that's what it was and would be...hmmmmmmm
Happy days
Hi Wanda
ReplyDeleteyes you must have had some lovely discussions and chats with them...and a little different to being the mother too...where there is that power imbalance - perhaps it doesn't appear that way with grandparents as much...children can be more open...I hope so...I am going to love it ...when I eventually am a grandmother...
My walking Buddie is down in Brisbane awaiting the arrival of her first grand child...it is so exciting for her...
Happy days
The thing I love about children is they never pull any punches, They say what they say weather they understand it or not.
ReplyDeleteHe is a cutie with his missing front teeth.
What a wise little person. How do we start out so smart and end up so silly sometimes? xv
ReplyDeleteTeaching kindergarten I hear little gems all the time.
ReplyDeleteEarlier this year while graphing their ages, the question of my age came up.
When I told them how old I am, one girl turned to her cousin sitting next to her and said quietly,
"57! He's almost dead!"
Oh yes, my grandchildren delight in coming over to tell us we're 'old'.
ReplyDeleteIf you want the truth, ask a child! Very cute picture.
ReplyDeleteSunny :)
What a cutie! Unabashed and a deep thinker for the age. It always amazes me the thought process and the final outcome that children have!
ReplyDeleteHow very sweet. Innocence and a touch of realism.
ReplyDeleteMe again Delywn...I just read your "Get a Life" post of March 2nd...and you have stated exactly how I feel, although I have never worked outside my home and only graduated 12th grade(but with high honors mind you) it could be me and my thoughts you speak of! So glad I read it!
ReplyDeleteSmiles,
Wanda

Hi Alicia
ReplyDeleteMy son # 2 is now 29 - a big strapping man...But often I still see him as this ancient souled little boy...he has a real freshness about his thinking - naivety perhaps but delightful...

Hi Nancy
ReplyDeleteand very practical too - why your mum is there downstairs and you are in your own childhood bed surrounded by all your toys...he must have felt a great sense of comfort in his home ...
Happy days
Hi Wanda
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you see eye to eye on that topic...all those unacknowledged contributions that we make to the family and the home and community, and those that don't ever merit mention...

And we all see things through our own particular set of filters, whether due to inexperience and lack of filtering, or the filters acquired through unconscious or conscious choice.
ReplyDeleteJust. Fabulous. My youngest are both 6 and days are filled with such as these.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this one.
"Treat children like adults, and adults like children."
ReplyDeleteYou are wise to treat their words so gently, teaching them to trust that you are a safe place to be.
Priceless, Delwyn!
Aloha

Was that your son when he was little, Delwyn? I think it's amazing that he dealt with the fear of losing you in such a healthy way (amazing because he was so young): he created a scenario for the event. Honestly, I think it's hard to lose a parent at any age, Delwyn. Take great care of yourself in every way. LOVE
ReplyDeleteHello meri
ReplyDeleteso in children their perception for a small time is relatively untainted...
Happy days
Hi Titus
ReplyDeletewell cherish those comments and collect them...you won't regret it...

Hello Cloudia

Hello Margaret
ReplyDeleteYes this is son #2, who is now 29 years old and a big fellow...with a big heart and wonderful way of seeing the world...
Oh Margaret I think you misunderstood...he was talking about the preparations if he should come to the part where you die...
He was thinking of himself...
Happy days
In answer to your question, yes~ I have a booklet filled with wonderful phrases, word interpretations and humor. We will enjoy reading it in the future together.
ReplyDeleteVery happy days indeed
Lola xx
Children know what adults have forgotten. Very wise, indeed.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Angela
Oh, Delwyn, I'm sorry! That is how I interpreted "the part where YOU die..." I wondered why none of the bloggers commented on your impending demise! Well, the fear of death is truly painful no matter whose it is, and how great he could begin to deal with it then so the fear already lessened for him. I do hope it's that easy... LOVE
ReplyDeleteSo cute, and so wise, too.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. But it makes me sad at the same time. Perhaps because I once had to tell my children that I might in fact die and how heart wrenching that was to do. Just picturing one of my children running to his room and waiting ... I think I'm not quite far enough away from that time to be able to just let it wash over me. But the time will come when I can. I know that.
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry
ReplyDeleteYou took the same meaning from the story as Margaret - he was thinking of his own demise...
That must have been a very hard thing to do Sherry...I'm glad that you are healthy and here...
Happy days
