A Bug
came and sat
on my kitchen bench
he was less than
1cm long
and when I looked closely
he had a pretty turquoise face
with a sort of a smile
lacy wings
with sepia edging
three legs
on each side
in tact
the front two legs
on each side
had three parts,
and the rear leg
a different structure
to the front two -
it was
hairy
two circles
like diamonds
on his wing tips
so I saw his segmented abdomen
beneath
what beautiful eyes you have
Mr Bug
Thank you
for flying by
and stopping
in my kitchen

That bug is a ham if I ever saw one!
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous, so elegant.
He sat on your lens?!?! Just proves my theory - the universe is bending over backwards to show us its beauty, if we only pay attention. (Having a good zoom lens helps too.)
Hi Delwyn
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bug! Have you managed to identify it yet?
Delwyn, what an exquisite creature, you're right about the eyes!
ReplyDeleteThe initial photgraph immediately brought to mind medieval churches and stained glass windows.
hi Polly
ReplyDeleteYes, it is all there if we open our eyes...
Happy days
He's a hansom critter alright. Beautifully photographed.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice of him to stop by and pose so well, with his beautiful wings, purple face and little smile. Very accommodating.
Wow Delwyn! Beautiful bug - and fabulous shots. Nice of him to land on white so we could really enjoy all his markings and colouring. Love his lacy wings and turquoise face.
ReplyDeleteYou must be really enjoying your new camera!! Great work.
Before coming to your blog Delwyn, on my dashboard the bug's wings appeared to be the back view of the wings of an angel...maybe a pendant I thought. Very beautiful little creature. Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteLuv and Smiles,
Wanda
Remarkable creature - I also thought its wings were angelic-looking.
ReplyDeletehello delwyn - my dad always said that living things come into yor life for a purpose. they might have something to tell us or to make us more aware of. the richness you unpacked in such a tiny space. a little being that chose to be very near you, to admire its appearance: i wonder what else it told you?!! steven
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for bringing the little fella 'alive' to those of us not graced by his presence.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty bug, and so nice to pay you a visit!
ReplyDeleteHow fortunate you are to have had such a beauty. I can't wait to show this to my daughter. She is going to be amazed at the photographs.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delicately beautiful creature. I wonder where he's been and what he's seen in his life.
ReplyDeleteDelwyn, I recognize the wings as identical to our locust's wings. I find the wings often on dead locusts and save them along with my collection of dragonfly wings. He's a beautiful creature! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteUnusual color on this little bug...You have a knack for taking photos of the most interesting things. You see beauty in things some people would just hit with a rolled up newspaper. :0
ReplyDeleteRosey
WOW....let me say that again...WOW!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat great shots of the most beautiful flying critter I have ever laid eyes on! And I hate most flying bugs! But he's a beauty! Well done!!
Hi Delwyn, what a a beautiful, clourful bug. I have just look back on your older posts, great as usual, loved your Japanese Flower and Willow blog.
ReplyDeleteHi, Delwyn, the color and lacy detail is really marvelous. S/He seems to have quite a personality, too!
ReplyDeleteI don't know many adults who can see the wonder of the world with eyes as fresh and curiosity as keen as a five year old's combined with the stability of attention that can come with maturity. But, Delwyn, you're one.
ReplyDeleteIn the second and third photos the insect's head and thorax seem to resemble a fish's body.
I am grateful that you look so closely at the miraculous world that surrounds us all and that you share your delight with the world!
What beautiful colors!! Never seen a bug that colorful--thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBest
Tracy :)

Happy days
Wouldn't it be amazing if as you watched the bug so closely it was also taking your measure? Of the several wonderful things that have happened to me today, the photos of your visitor are right up there with the most awesome.
ReplyDeleteHi Dan
ReplyDeletethanks for that comment - knowing as you do, the ability of little ones to be easily fascinated by the new and unusual...
He does have a rather streamlined shape, flat head on top - you can see resemblances to fish...

Hi Steven
ReplyDeleteI love your way of looking at life.
The little bug told me to stop and really look...
then he told me that beauty is often hidden...
and lastly he told me that life is short, and you never know when the final curtain will drop...
The lid he was sitting on slipped over and flattened him ...caput...just like that...after showing us his amazing beauty...he was gone...impermanance, transience...carpe diem...
He came to share...
Happy days
