Home Again

I crawled out of bed
this morning
at 3am
to catch a very early flight
 back home to Australia
from New Zealand

and was rewarded with
dawn views
of Mt Ruapehu
in the centre
of the North Island

While in Christchurch
I found many treasures...
the above picture
shows my younger sister
in the highchair,

and me aged three
with koala
and fluffy
patent leather muff,
a gift from
 an Aunt in Australia

Do you think
my koala fascination
may have begun
way back then...

  1. Well at least the early hour gave you a beautiful view! I think that is definitely the start of your koala fascination. :)

  4. The Koala obviously made such an impression that the first chance you got you took off for Australia and have been there ever since!

  5. Watching the sun rise above the clouds is a special treat. Like the gift of a koala from a special aunt.

  6. I bet it did start then, Delwyn. Do you now wear your camera with a neck strap...like the muff? :)

  8. You have a koala fascination? I would never have guessed it!

Delwyn, I have just started a new blog, a poetry blog. I hope it's going to be of a special sort, not so much long-winded, dead, white, European poets, but women's poetry, mystic poetry, modern poetry from all over the globe; all of them my favourites.
It's going to be a very self-indulgent blog, but I'd love it if you could be my guest occasionally.
If you can spare the time and the interest, have a look, please. It might be the sort of stuff you like too.

The url is in the top left hand part of my sidebar.

  9. Delwyn, how cool is that? That is such a great photo. I'll bet you unearthed a multitude of treasures for sure. That first photo is pretty amazing as well.

Glad you are back safely from your travels!

  13. Hi Alexis

I am glad that the fascination remained for the koala and not for patent leather muffs...
    Isn't my sister podgy?

  15. Hi Alden

You know I was never interested in coming to Au as a young person. We came over for a holiday in the late 70s and were so taken with Noosa that we wondered why we should return.

  18. Hi Wanda
I hadn't thought about that aspect Wanda and you are right...I do wear the neck strap when walking and rest the camera on my side...I am careful and leave the strap around my neck when taking photos too if I can...I don't want to lose it over a cliff...

  19. Hi Bonnie

a koala kid must be like the milky bar kid do you think....

I know I was a rascal kid...when I was wiping down my mother's stainless steel bench top I asked her about a ding at the edge...she said she had taken a swipe at me with a spoon because I had been so naughty and was horrified when she saw the ding, and learned a lesson about hitting children that day...

I will write you an update email soon. thanks Bonnie

  20. Hi friko
I didn't know about it until I began my camera walks....it must have been lying dormant all of those 55 odd years...

I would be delighted to come and visit your new blog...especially if you put the kettle on for tea...

  25. Hi Meri

it is such a treat for me to come across an old photo that I had forgotten about. I found a package of documents relating to my Uncle who was killed at 20 years of age in the Pacific War and also some school things of my Father's going back nearly 80 years...and in addition a geography book dated 1852 which must have accompanied a family member on the trip from the UK to NZ mid 1880s. Such wonderful finds...

    Happy days Meri
