Summer Moon

*

Summer Moon

One evening
when we had only just moved
into our new home
I was putting out the lights
for bed
when something
in the gum trees opposite
caught my eye

December moon
waxing for the second time

In her lacy night gown
she slumbers

Brilliant moon
is it true
that you too
must pass in a hurry

Issa

 One perfect moon
and the uncountable stars
drowned in a green sky

Shiki

From watching the moon
I turned
and my friendly old shadow
led me home

  3. I love how traditional haiku stays on its nature theme. When we Americans write haiku, we don't seem to care about this aspect of the Japanese form of Haiku poetry. Lovely post, Delwyn. Have a wonderful holiday!

  4. I think many of us tend to underestimate the role of the moon in our lives Delwyn. Lovely pictures and words.

  7. Oh Delwyn... this is just spectacular. The lacy nighgown shot is perfection in imagery. And the haikus are truly special.
What camera did you use to capture the great detail of the waxing moon?

    I miss you

  17. HI Dan

yes it was a requisite that the haiku make the season clear either by statement or implication...through the weather or seasonal change in flora...

I am settling into a routine of a long early am walk, (well it is actually about 8 am but feels very early here as it is winter of course and dark til later. I have adjusted quite quickly to the time change - the 20 hour difference usually messes me up for a while), followed by my daily coffee which comes in the form of a latte here as my regular 'flat white' request brings blank stares! and then the day is free ...what luxury...

  19. Hello Bonnie

It is interesting to see how the gum tree leaves can create a Japanese bamboo feeling across the moon.
I hope that you are feeling refreshed and invigorated after your efforts.

  22. Hi Steven

I just grabbed the camera and tried every setting that would work...and was quite amazed myself with the results. I have reduced these down for ease of loading but in the original form the last one is so full of detail on the moon's surface...it makes you feel that you are there.

  25. Wow! These images are stunning! The words, too of course, but that summer moon. Hard to believe it's the same moon I'm seeing here through the cold, dry winter air.

    wow!!

  26. Hi Reya

I have just been walking on the beach, in Kauai, looking at the opaque mooning hanging in the afternoon sky and wondering how it plans to get full by sat when my son is getting married on the beach. He chose the date by the moon...perhaps it will be near to full...

  33. Oh how lovely! Did your blog name come from these beautiful photos?

  34. Hi Lizzy

it could have done, but my blog name came from the first haiku on my side bar called the Entrance of Spring.

I saw these moons just recently from my new home.
