South Pacific
well here I am
walking on the sands
of Hanalei Bay
Kauai, Hawaii
which is where the movie
South Pacific was filmed-
even though it is not really
the South pacific,
more like the middle Pacific
but that wouldn't make
as a good a title...
That little peak
in the background
is Bali Hai
whereas in the musical and movie
the mythical island
upon which the story took place
was called Bali Hai
from the Hanalei pier
looking across the bay
lying on the water
is Puff the Magic Dragon
the front lower ridge
is the dragon's neck
the red patch his eye socket
and when the on shore winds blow
the surf sends up spray
that appears like
Puff's steaming nostrils
I have left the pics
at full resolution)

and on this expansive lawn
with 180 degree views of the bay
in this most special of islands
my son #1 will marry his love
tomorrow
Oh Happy days

ReplyDeleteBoy, do you bring back childhood and high school memories as I grew up on Kauai-- graduated Kauai High school and remember driving to Hanalei and going to the beach at the 'end of the road' and the hike along the cliffs.

I had to enlarge the picture to see the dragon, but then it just jumps out at you.
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe I could have phrased that differently. It didn't actually jump at me, although it looks as if it could.
Hi Delwyn, Wonderful photos. Have a great day tomorrow and all good wishes to your son and his bride.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has now moved on from the Gold Coast and is back in Sydney hoping to move on to Adelaide in a few days. She's had a marvellous time on the East Coast and loved every minute of it.
Take care.

ReplyDeleteYes, Delwyn, I hope that you and your family are safe from the tsunami that we have heard is headed for Hawaii.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your son and his bride, and hope that your trip is WONDERFUL.
delwyn i've always equated hawaii with a dreamworld for a number of reasons and to think that your boy will get married there!!!! lucky lucky you - lucky lucky him!!!! steven
ReplyDeleteYes be safe and be careful!!!
ReplyDeleteDelwyn, awful news to wake up to this morning and I immediately thought of you out in the Pacific and my husband on the North Island of NZ. Be safe. Thoughts and prayers with you and those in Chile.
ReplyDeleteAh, a perfect place for a perfect day!
ReplyDeleteDear Delwyn,
ReplyDeleteHave been following the news and so glad to hear that Hawaii did not sustain any damage from the tsunami. But I am sure the warnings and evacuations must have wreaked havoc for the wedding plans. What memories must have been made ~ truly unforgettable.
I lived in Oahu when very young, siblings were born there, as mom was stationed as a waiting wife while dad was in Viet Nam. The pictures still amaze me...
Enjoy your time in yet another place of paradise...
Cyndy
Like others...wondering how the events affected the wedding plans.
ReplyDeleteMost likely just a delay, I imagine or maybe it had already taken place!
...Wanda
Hi Delwyn, I thought of you and your Family immediately after hearing of evacuations in Hawaii. I hope you are all safe and your happy couple is married. There will be an extra story to tell about this wedding!
ReplyDeleteDelwyn, I would like to say how lucky you are!
ReplyDeleteI suppose, now that all danger is past, I can say so.
Without people like you and your photos I would never know that there is a reality of wonderful places on earth, that there were not just invented by a film maker!
Hope you had a happy wedding day in spite of earth's rumblings.
All best wishes to the bride and groom and what a blessing that you could all be together for the happy day.
ReplyDeleteThe north side looks as beautiful as I remember it... I lived on Kauai from 1970-1974 - 2 years in Anahola and 2 years in Waimea. Surely one of the most beautiful islands anywhere.
So wonderful you could be there for such a special event.
