Mail Away

One of the reasons
that I am only occasionally present
here these days
is that I have been making mail...

mail art

which can be made from anything
lying about, junk, images, old papers
drawings, magazines, brochures, flyers
and plenty of glue...

 You can recycle envelopes
turn them inside out
draw, paint, snip and paste
add poems, clippings, quotes,
create in any way
that expresses your individuality...
you don't have to be an artist
just keen to make mail
and connect with others

I have invited a few friends
to join a 'closed' blog
where we share the mail received
and build friendships

If this idea of snail mail art appeals to you
and you have the time and inclination
to indulge your creativity in this fashion
email me

and I will give you further information
about the Mail Away project

  5. An interesting post, Delwyn, and the mail art you have created in beautiful. I know nothing about this, however. Do you simply create a little collage and send it to someone in the snail mail?

  9. Lovely idea, and beautiful mail art! I've never seen like these. Some people are blessed with creativity, others enjoy the created works. I am the latter, and appreciate them with all my heart. Making art looks a piece of cake for you, Delwyn!

  17. This is really a lovely idea、Delwyn. They are original and creative mail arts. I enjoy seeing your post very much!

I also enjoy another way of using beautiful papers. Occasionally, beautiful papers are used to make birthday cards or to decorate my notebooks or used for tea mats. This is one of my small enjoyments.
Thank you for sharing your lovely mail arts!

  18. Delwyn, Just found your post via Lizzy Frizzfrock. I am a traditionalist when it comes to writing personal letters. Emails are great but I feel that it is knocking out letter writing which is becoming a lost art. Your idea of decorating old envelopes turned inside out is so clever. I am going to design some and send them to my friends and relatives. Perhaps I will make up some holiday envelopes with some kind of homemade card inside. I am not a crafter but this idea of yours really appeals to me. They are mini-pieces of art. Thanks -- barara

  19. Hello again, Delwyn. It must be a wonderful feeling to open the envelop just chosen and made for me! When it comes to writing a letter, I email or use a ready-made envelop. However, I remember making postal cards on my own when I had time. The handmade art mail itself is important part of heartfelt messages. Thanks for reminding me of this.

  22. Your art is fantastic! I am envious, as I have not a creative bone in my body. Interestingly, I just finished participating in a travelling art journal with another group of online friends, and while I found the art process interesting and almost like therapy, I found myself feeling inadequate and envious of what others had created. I can't create, but I can copy. I tried a variety of techniques, collage, watercolor and pounded flowers. It was fun, but seeing my art in the collection is irritating because it never turns out like I want it to look. But, it was something special to receive in the mail actual tangible pieces of my online friends. Good luck with your project, hope you don't mind my lurking and learning!

  31. What a wonderful way to preserve and enhance letter writing, which is turning into a lost art. I found you through Moments of Mine. Maybe once I get our newly retirement plans in place, I may email you for an invite to join. What a GREAT, creative idea. I enjoyed your mellow music too.
