Lolly Pink

The beauty of sunsets
is that they are invariably different

even when viewed
from the same vantage points

on the same pathway...
they are always able
to halt you in your tracks

and take your breath away
Tonight's sunset glowed golden red
through the eucalyptus trees
as it stretched out
over the ocean towards me

and then at a certain point

on its steady slipping

behind the hills

it turned a bright pink

a lolly pink sunset

wondrous oblivion

A Double dose of Beauty

*

I have two beautiful things
to show you from my walk today

the first, you may question
my descriptive terminology

But I find
this little Bearded Dragon
to be quite a beauty

A lizard of the Pogona family
he has splendid camouflage
and patterning

an inquisitive glare

spiky scales around his throat
and the back of his head
which can expand
when he feels threatened

His gentle friendly nature
makes him a good pet

This Bearded Dragon
was scuttling across my path
He measured about a foot in length
and will nearly double that
as an adult

But with my second offering

I am sure
that you will concur

 this soft peachy sunset
over the ocean

is a beautiful way
to end the day's walk

Big Seas

*

Big seas
and bright lights

Way out here
at the end of the National Park
before it meets Sunshine Beach
and the great swathe of Pacific Ocean
that runs all the way south of here
to my capital city of Brisbane

there is a secluded bay called
Alexandra Bay
popular with those
who like to wear
their birthday suits

well it was a bit rough
for that today

facing into the gusting
south easterly winds

but back here
in the shelter of Laguna Bay
things are very different

the surfers
enjoy the swells
of the late afternoon

and my walk
slows to a crawl
and then a stop

as I soak up
the splendour

before climbing
up the boardwalk
to home...

Oh Happy Days

Sunset Sunday

Walking on Sunday
at Sunset...

Late Sunday
Beloved and I
took to the coastal path
around the bays
towards Dolphin Point

We didn't catch sight
of a migrating whale

but on our return

the sun began to slip

and line the horizon
with a stroke of pink

small clouds
mimicked birds in flight

and the ocean glowed

we stood

to watch

the final moments

and enjoy
that window

of shared beauty

in love with nature

and others
felt the same

and after

the sun
had disappeared

that glorious sense
of calm
and peace

falls all over
our world

A Hazy Sun

*

When I left work
at lunchtime today
I noticed a small bushfire
on the North Shore
across the Noosa River

You know what bush fire smoke means
don't you...

A Hazy sun

When I saw
the golden glow appear
on the late afternoon river
where I live
I knew it was time to hot foot it,
take the rental DVDs back
and get down
to the Noosa River
in time...

I parked the car
at the slip way
and saw that the sun
was still quite high
lolling in smokey cloud

time to wander up the river
with my back to the sun
and wait for it to drop...

It was a glorious winter afternoon
a mild 19* (70)

the river was calm and glassy
a few yachts were enjoying
the last of the day

across the peaceful river
the smoke hovers
over the coastal bushland

I think it is time
we made our way back
now

the sun has slipped lower
into the rugged dunes
and hinterland

the crows come
to salute the sun
and bid it farewell
for another day

a fisherman
puts away his reel
and brings his tinny
into the slipway

and the sun
lowers her golden
garments

and languidly
stretches out her body
onto the water

then drawing back

she slips

below the distant hills

and right out of sight
