Lush Green

*

Lush Green

In the few weeks
that I was away
the coastal forest
and bush
have been transformed...

from dessicated
brittle dry brown
to lush green

the hillsides have become
cloaked in regal emerald

new life springs
and curls
from leafy growth

and wild green
paints the landscape
fresh

little flying beetles
do the pollination dance
on hibertia scandens

tender wild violets
lean towards
the soft morning sun

the painted lady
has been in her makeup box

even the rocks
at the ocean's edge
have taken on a green hue
to keep in context

the dry grasses
are festooned with wildflowers

weird flower heads emerge

lush green
has come...
for its season

Proteas

Proteas...

I have posted on Proteas before
so I won't repeat myself

I suggest
for background information
you might like to visit
Gondwanaland

and for variety look at
and Protean Proteas

to accompany
this bunch of proteas
I offer you
these lines

of Persian poet
Mahmud Kianush
called

Of Life

Let your words
be like a wild flower

a smile of azure

with a tiny mouth of gold

in the naked sunshine
of a desert

as blissful as the kiss
of a mother

When you talk of life

it seems as if on the road

we are confronted
with a rock

unsightly and huge,

happened to be there

for no known reason,

unyielding to all solutions.

Let your words fly

lightly in the sun

like

butterflies.

Hot Stuff

Hot Stuff

on my walk
I noticed the ginger
flowering

Shell Ginger
is a clumping ornamental ginger
called Alpinia zerumbet

sometimes referred to as
Pink Porcelain Lady

The shell ginger
has sweet bell shaped
pink and white flowers

with a bright yellow inside petal
showing red spots and stripes

The rhizome
is native to South East Asia

and grows well in this climate

The other ginger
the hot stuff
is also a rhizome
called Zingiber officinale
from the Sanskrit word siugabera
meaning shaped like a horn

In the early 1900s
ginger was planted at Buderim
a town one hour's drive
south of Noosa
on the Sunshine Coast

The ginger was used
for the domestic market
Up until that time
ginger had been imported
from China

During the war times
when supply was difficult
to obtain from China
a plantation was developed
and now the industry provides ginger
and ginger products
to 17 countries
around the world

The Buderim Ginger Factory
produces a range of ginger products
marmalades and jam
preserves
chutneys
toppings and sauces
beverages and confectionery

but my favourite
is crystalised ginger
which I love to eat
with walnuts
or almonds

Ginger is one of man's earliest medicines
It first appears
in China's Pen Tsao Ching
a classic of herbs
circa 3000 BC
and is mentioned by Confucius
for its health properties
as a carminative
aiding digestion

It is also frequently mentioned
in Greek and Roman literature

Ginger was one of the original
Silk Road products

I like to use fresh ginger in Asian cooking
drop a few slices into a pot of tea
and
on a hot day drink ginger and lime cordial
or sip an ice cold ginger beer...

and of course
there are many
wonderful baking recipes
using ground ginger

Delicious hot stuff

Jasmin

*

Jasmin

 Star
Jasmin
tumbling
down
over
rocks

Pinwheels
spinning
perfume

through
the warm air
from
tiny moon faces

I pick a cluster
and
drive home

in a cocoon
of sweet
Jasmin breath

I am climbing aboard
the flying Kangaroo
hopping over the Tasman
for a few days...

See you later
and
Happy days

Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

*

Yesterday Today Tomorrow...

This beautiful shrub
with a heavenly fragrance
is called Brunfelsia Bonodora

But is commonly known as
Yesterday Today Tomorrow
because of the way it flowers -

the flower begins violet
then fades to lilac
which fades to white...

I have always loved the plant
and one reason being that
it's name reminds me of childhood

as a child I attended a church
and from my pew
I would look each Sunday
at the words

Jesus Christ
the same
Yesterday Today Tomorrow...

These days
I adhere to no particular religion
so I began to think of qualities or attributes
that would fit this definition
of being
The same
Yesterday Today Tomorrow

I tried Love
and thought
no, Love fades and can die,
then I wondered about Hope
and realised that sometimes
our hope runs low,
I considered Charity
and thought charity
often drifts on the winds
of benevolence and affluence
what about Faith
is it the same
Yesterday today and tomorrow-
I don't think so

So I settled for Kindness

Kindness-

The same
yesterday
today
and
tomorrow...

What can you think of
that would fit this definition...
